“Kaimaki” ice cream retro-flavour always brings some «old Greece» connotations in mind…
Traditionally served on the side of some baklava, kataifi or ravani pastries of turkish origin, it has survived nowadays despite all this Ben & Jerry’s, Haagen Dazs or Movenpick contemporary ice cream culture. There is a reason for that: it’s simply delicious & unique!
I’ve recently tasted the best & most authentic «Kaimaki» in a long time at ΥΠΕΡΩΚΕΑΝΕΙΟΝ, the well-known seafood taverna in the atmospheric neighbourhood of Pireaus. Sure, the «lobster pasta» or the «sea urchin» dishes are great but the dessert here is even better!
It really brought back some happy childhood memories plus a long-forgotten taste. You should definitely try this!
