Do this if you have a day off: drive to Ancient Epidaurus (it’s a lovely trip!) & take some time with yourself contemplating the beauty of the landscape & the superb ancient ruins.
Sophisticated Athenians usually do the trip in July or August when the Greek Festival stages some fine (or not that fine…) ancient drama performances at the world-famous Ancient Theater of Epidaurus. But I was there in springtime & I assure you that this place is much more than just the theater…
In this small valley in the Peloponnesus, the temple of Asklepios, the Tholos and, of course, the Theatre are considered some of the purest masterpieces of Greek architecture dating from the 4th century B.C. Add to this the beautiful untouched landscape (the same since the ancient years) & you have the perfect stage for your own personal «trip back in time».
Just wear a pair of comfortable shoes. And check the weather forecast for clear blue skies & bright sunshine!
