I am not a big fan of what tourists know as the «greek souvlaki». Well, I sure used to be an addict when I was a kid but it’s not often any more that I appreciate something that belongs to the «junk» category…
The only exception is the traditional -since 1950- souvlaki at ΚΩΣΤΑΣ near Syntagma square. The easy-going man who runs the place has inhereted his grandfather’s delicious secrets: a fresh sauce with mint (instead of stinking tzatziki), removing by hand extra fat from every each piece of meat every morning or how to make a crispy outside-soft inside pita (pie), ultimately making the perfect low-fat but ultra delicious souvlaki.
Keep in mind that the motto around here is «No Stress» and probably that’s what it takes to make a souvlaki to be proud of.
ΚΩΣΤΑΣ (Pendelis Str 5, near Syntagma sq.) operates every day -except Sundays- from 9 a.m. until they run out of AA quality meat, that is around 3 p.m.
